"סיפור אהבה יוצא דופן בין תמר-הנרייטה לנדוור, ילידת וינה, לבין וולפגנג שוורטה, יליד המושבה הגרמנית בירושלים מסעיר את הרוחות בעיר בשנות השלושים והארבעים של המאה העשרים. לחץ חברתי כבד קוטע באכזריות את הקשר הבלתי אפשרי בין הצעירה היהודיה לבין הצעיר מקהילת הטמפלרים, שרבים מחבריה היו נאצים פעילים. וולפגנג שבור הלב חוזר לגרמניה לפני פרוץ מלחמת העולם השנייה ואילו תמר, שמנסה לשכוח אותו, נקלעת לסופת רגשות כשהיא רואה אותו לפתע ברחוב יפו בירושלים כמה שנים לאחר-מכן, דווקא כשכותרות העיתונים מבשרות על היערכות הצבא הנאצי להתקפה על פלשתינה-א"י. יהודים וערבים, אנגלים וגרמנים, לוחמי לח"י, בלשי משטרה, אנשי פלמ"ח ומרגלים נאצים מאכלסים את דפיו של אהובת הטמפלר מעמק רפאים. רומן היסטורי רחב יריעה זה, המבוסס על מחקר מעמיק, שוזר אירועי אמת ואנשים שחוללו אותם באירועים ואנשים פרי הדמיון, ורוקם סיפור שלא היה לא נברא, אך הוא אפשרי בהחלט"--מן המעטפת האחורית.
