BookAnalyzes the reception of Zionism in French public opinion, and the interest of antisemites in Zionism (e.g. Edouard Drumont), which led to the connection by French Jews of Zionism with antisemitism. Examines the response of Bernard-Lazare to antisemitism and the Dreyfus Affair, and his conversion to Zionism as a result. Pp. 181-187, "Le judaisme consistorial et la menace antisemite, " discuss the reaction of consistorial Jewry to the resurgence of antisemitism in the 1930s, which was exacerbated by the victory of the Popular Front and the accession of Leon Blum as Prime Minister in 1936. States that the general belief among French Jewry was that antisemitism was a German import. Deals only summarily with the war period.
