הספרייה הלאומית נוסדה על ידי לשכת "בני ברית" בירושלים, אשר פתחה בשנת 1892 ספרייה ציבורית עברית ראשונה. בעקבות דו"ח ועדת זמיר, הפך בשנת 2008 בית הספרים הלאומי והאוניברסיטאי לחברה לתועלת הציבור בשם "הספריה הלאומית". |
